The Bahamas Reopens to Tourism: Updated August 4
Updated: a day ago
We've all been anxiously awaiting the reopening of the beloved Bahamas Islands! With sugar sand beaches that stretch as far as the imagination and waters teaming with all sorts of sea life, it is a world that can "take the blues away" and leave the turquoise in your heart! The Exumas, Bahamas, are unlike anyplace else on earth. They are low lying, pristine, white sand, often uninhabited gems, surfacing in waters of astonishing hues. Most experienced yachtsmen agree that for an out-island getaway, the Exumas, Bahamas is unmatched. Even repeat visitors discover amazing new reefs and are surprised by a tiny cove with a beach they have never explored.
Today, this article has been updated with the latest news:
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis has announced a “complete national lockdown” of every island in The Bahamas for at least the next two weeks after the country recorded a significant spike in the number of cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
“The national lockdown will be for a minimum of two weeks (and) nearing the end of this period we will assess the health data and advise whether a further lockdown period is necessary. The extension, relaxation, or cessation of the national lockdown will in part be determined by the cooperation of Bahamians and residents alike”.
Minnis, who is also a medical practitioner, said the longer Bahamians take collectively “to bring this second wave under control, the longer it will take to resume a sense of normalcy.
Each island in our archipelago must do its part,” he added.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that private flights and charters from the United States, as well as pleasure craft and yachts, were permitted, and travelers from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European Union are exempt from the emergency order. The Bahamas has closed borders to international commercial flights and commercial vessels carrying passengers from the United States. All visitors were required to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test from a referenced lab, taken no more than 10 days prior to the date of travel.
The Bahamas is reviewing and being guided by the most effective practices from around the world. The reopening of borders will continue to be monitored and guided by The Bahamas government and health officials, based on COVID-19 trends.
Until we are able to visit the Bahamas again, we will dream of our next crewed charter vacation aboard one of these yachts below...
